Storm Watch 2010
Wednesday, August 4, 2010 at 9:02AM I was convinced we were going to miss the entire monsoon season during our trip to PA. It's nice to be wrong. The day after we got back Mother Nature had a lovely surprise for us. The girls and I had just finished an afternoon snack when the sky grew dark and the wind started to blow. At first we had a few sprinkles that evaporated. Then nothing. Soon it began to rain. Then a little more. All of a sudden it was raining so hard you couldn't see the street from our front room window. It was like being in a blizzard.
When the storm was over everyone in our neighborhood came out to survey the damage. Yeowza! Massive trees were ripped out of the ground, roots and all. Others were snapped clean in half. Our neighbor's trampoline was lifted up and blown on to the roof of the house next door. Garbage cans found their way into parked cars and the corn field across the street. Tiles were ripped off roofs and street signs were knocked over. It was crazy! We got lucky. We lost a few tree limbs and had to restake some trees but otherwise we were damage free. Unlike last year when we lost our lovely mesquite tree in the front yard.
Kate had fun pretending to be a news reporter. She even interviewed her sister about what it was like to witness the storm.
