Thursday, July 1, 2010 at 3:17PM Happy July everyone! Not quite half way through the summer and I'm surprised to find that I'm surviving and without too much complaint. Usually by this point I've packed my bags, planned countless trips and threatened to give my house away to the first person willing to take it all in attempt to escape the heat. Maybe it's my imagination or leftover joy from fabulously long spring we had but this year's heat is almost tolerable. I am itchy for monsoon season to start. I'm hopeful that this year will bring a tad more rain and less dusty wind than last season. The majority of this month has me sitting at my computer staring at weather.com's radar map of AZ and hitting F5 waiting for some sign that rain is on its way. I can hear my out of state relatives now... they're probably wondering why I don't just walk outside and look up. Anyone who has lived in the valley during monsoon season will tell you it can be pouring two streets away and completely dry at your house. Besides, hitting that silly little button at the top of my keyboard and watching as the big green blob moves slowly across the map of my city helps me feel like I'm actually DOING something about the situation. Isn't it great the way technology enables my need to control everything? I like to think so.
We are traveling to Pennsylvania in a few weeks so we're sticking close to home for the 4th. I hope everyone has a safe and happy Independence Day!

- Seeing the smile on Elise's face when she woke up and shouted "it's an Aunt Heidi Day!"
