Blueberries for Sal

Another hot day in the Stange house.  I waited as long as I could but for fear of my blueberries going bad (inspite of a still broken AC) I made blueberry crisp.

I recommend the recipe. It was quick and easy and super delicious.  For those of you who need to be dairy free use Earth Balance - it's a great butter substitute for cooking and baking.  I followed the suggestions listed in the reviews and doubled the topping. I also added a squeeze of fresh lemon juice to the berries. It was a delicious way to end our day.

My daily grateful

  • Spontaneous lunch with the Mr. and the girls
  • Listening to the girls talking in the bathroom - they were telling each other how much they loved each other and how great it is to be sisters
  • Seeing how excited the girls were when their dad came home 20 minutes early
  • A delicious 20 minute mid-afternoon nap under the fan

Hallie - Didn't you ever read "Blueberries for Sal" to the boys when they were little?

BTW, that recipe is perfect for you. The whole time I was eating it I kept saying "Hallie would like this a lot!" You don't have to use blueberries. I've seen the recipe with a combo of blueberries and peaches. Apples would also be tasty.

I remember that book from elementary school...I always think of it when I pick blueberries. I saw a copy in an used bookstore in Chicago...why didn't I buy it???
