Finally!
Saturday, June 5, 2010 at 10:09PM Anyone who's been within 5 feet of me during the last two months has undoubtedly heard me say "when is Chompie's opening!?". For those of you unfamiliar with the local chain Chompies is a NY style deli with an enormous menu and even bigger sandwiches. It's not a 5-star restaurant and not everything they offer is praise worthy but they have THE BEST chicken matzo ball soup I've ever tasted! So when the Mr. told me they had flipped the "open" sign to ON I was psyched. I piled everyone in the car for a Friday night dinner out and headed straight for the Chandler Chompie's. I don't know what was better, finally eating my bowl of matzo ball soup or having Kate try it and like it just as much as I do. We all had a yummy dinner which was the perfect end to a very hot, very fun day. It was also the perfect start to a relaxing weekend.
This morning Kate and I had a few hours at home alone. We built a fort, ate snacks and read "The Magic Treehouse" stories by flashlight.
I had planned to make upside down blueberry cobbler but the downstairs AC is on the fritz. I've instituted a moretorium on all baking until the repairman can make a house call. In the meantime we're keeping the curtains closed and sipping ice cold drinks under the fan.
We had the girls do a scavenger hunt this afternoon. I printed up a list of items and their dad helped them read it. They had a blast running through the house gathering their items and piling them on the front room table. Here's the list.
- Something pink and soft
- An orange crayon
- A book about a puppy
- Something valuable but not expensive
- A baby’s toy
- A flower
- Something silver and sparkly that you can wear
- Something that keeps you warm but is not clothes
- Something cold
- 1 red object
- A princess
- A horse
- Something smooth and hard that will not break
- A living thing
- A hand-me-down
- Something old
Hope you're all having a fabulous (and slightly cooler than us) weekend!

My daily grateful:
- ice - yep, you're going to see this one on my list A LOT for the next few months
- modern appliances - I can't imagine how much harder my grandmother worked to keep her household running smoothly
- everyone enjoying their dinner
- seeing my girls, happy and healthy, running around laughing in the backyard before bedtime
- hearing Kate exclaim "wow! He's so lucky, I wish I could live with my grandparents!" upon hearing about Charlie from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.

Whatever you do, don't ruin Willy Wonka for Kate, the way Chris ruined it for me, by pointing out how selfish Grandpa Joe was. He couldn't get out of bed for 20 years to help feed the family, but, as soon as Charlie invites him to go to the chocolate factory, he's up and about. I used to love Grandpa Joe.
I have two things in common with you this weekend. 1) We've been listening to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory this week on cd (and movie tonight). 2) CHOMPIES (unfortunately...) ;-)
