Phoenix Children's Photographer | Storm Clouds

are brewing on the horizon.  The last 10 days have been full of rain clouds and windy weather but that's not what I mean.  I knew something was up a few days ago when Elise started melting down at the drop of the hat...very un-Elle-like.  It started out as a cold and today her biggie brought home a stomach bug.  Nothing major, no fevers, but we're laying low for the next 2 days.

It's always a challenge to feed the girls on nights like tonight.  Nobody has an appetite but low blood sugar just adds to the fussies.  Thankfully we have a silver bullet.  I like to call it our superfood but it's really just a kale smoothie.  You can find the original recipe here. I've included my take on the recipe below.  We've had our daily smoothies since Kate was a wee toddler.  Sometime between 3 and 4 pm we put on our favorite dance music, sip our smoothies and boogie the afternoon crazies away.  Until a few weeks ago I'd been making strawberry-pinneapple or strawberry-banana.  Then one day I was whining to a friend that Elise refuses to eat anything green.  She sent me the link to this smoothie and claimed her girls loved it.  I wondered how a sweet drink would taste with a heavy green like Kale. My friend has excellent taste (she used to be a pastry chef) so I gave her the benefit of the doubt. I didn't have any Kale on hand so I used baby spinach and it was delicious!  The next day I stocked up on Kale and we've been sipping green smoothies ever since.  I feel deviously triumphant when I watch my youngest suck down those veggies like it's vanilla milkshake...buwhaaa haaa haa!  Give it a try and let me know what you think.
