How it all started | Phoenix Chandler Family Photographer
Wednesday, January 13, 2010 at 9:16PM Sometime in the middle of December while staring down a pile of decorations, gift wrap and the standard daily clutter we decided it was time for spring cleaning. In January. Which in Phoenix often feels like spring. We decided to clean and reorganize nearly every space in the house. This week we’re tackling the garage. Every day after work we pick a few boxes and examine their contents to determine whether we “keep, pitch or donate”. Today at the bottom of one of several boxes of books I found this…

This is how football entered my life, with a book. Let me explain. When the Mr. and I started dating I liked hockey, he liked football. He bought me glass seats to the ‘yotes for my birthday and I cashed in my frequent flier miles to give him a trip to Pittsburgh for the Steelers home opener. Everyone was happy. And then football season started. Saying that he “liked” football was a bit of an understatement. I quickly realized that if I didn’t want to miss 16 Sundays of togetherness I was going to have to spend those Sundays watching football. I also realized that watching football when you don’t know what’s going on ranks pretty low on the entertainment scale; somewhere between the director’s cut of your neighbor’s vacation home video and watching paint dry. So naturally being the A-type that I am, I decided to take the most logical approach to learning about football. I went to Barnes and Noble and bought a book. In my defense I would like to note that this was before the days of Wikipedia and YouTube. If you wanted to learn about something you couldn't just Google the answer. Besides, it was fairly well written and it served its purpose because I learned a lot. Seeing that book brought back fond memories of our pre-kids football Sunday rituals. A full day of lounging in sweatpants, indulging in bad snack food and shouting at the TV...aaah good times! This one is definitely going in the keep pile.

How funny! I was thinking as I read that, "If she's going to get rid of it I'll take it." I've finally gotten the basics of football down, and I told John that next year I'll work on learning plays since at our house Saturdays are spent with college football on the TV all day.
Also funny, we, too, are purging from our house. I'm so tired of the clutter and everything being so disorganized!!
Claire - In spite of my love for organization I was quite the packrat in my younger days. Upon cleaning out the garage I found worksheets from catechism classes I took when I was 7 and boxes and boxes of notes from JHS and HS friends that I can't even remember! It feels so good to finally get rid of all the old junk!
